This past Spring Break, Go Blue Tours was able to say “Gracias” to the city and people of Cancun by donating $30,000 Pesos to Ciudad de la Alegría, on behalf of Pi Kappa Alpha at West Virginia University, Lambda Chi Alpha at Purdue University, Phi Kappa Psi at University of Virginia, Sigma Nu at University of New Hampshire, Sigma Alpha Epsilon at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and all of our student travelers.

What is Ciudad de la Alegría?

Ciudad de la Alegría (translated to The City of Joy) is located on the outskirts of Cancun and annually serves more than 30,000 people living in extreme poverty. Funded 100% by donations, la Ciudad has a school that goes from preschool all the way through High School, a rehabilitation center for trouble youth, a home for pregnant and/or teen mothers, as well as a home for the terminally ill. The schools help students who otherwise wouldn’t be in school get an education so they can go to college, earn a living, and help out their extremely poor families.

It was a great honor for us to meet the people behind la Ciudad and see how and what they do and urge everyone to learn more about them and ask that you please donate to help the youth of Cancun.
