National Margarita Day, February 22nd

If you didn’t know, February 22nd is the Official National Margarita Day.  We’re really not sure who decided it, maybe it was this puppet guy, but who are we to argue another reason to enjoy one (most likely more) of these Mexican specialties.

In honor of this spectacular day, we’ve decided to  share some interesting Margarita Facts.

  •  It is the most common tequila-based cocktail in the United States.
  • There is no solid proof who “invented” the Margarita, however the most accepted of all stories is that the Margarita was invented in October 1941, at Hussong’s Cantina in Ensenada, Mexico, by bartender Don Carlos Orozco.
  • Margarita is Spanish for Daisy.
  • The world’s largest cocktail was a margarita and was 10,499 US gal, in Sacramento, California, USA, on July 13, 2012.

National Margarita Day

10 steps to the perfect Margarita

  1. Put ice in a shaker.
  2. Measure one part tequila and pour into the shaker.
  3. Add one part triple sec (substitute blue curaçao to make a blue margarita).
  4. Add one part fresh lime juice.
  5. Shake vigorously (the shaker, not yourself)
  6. Take a slice of lime and run it around the rim of the glass.
  7. Pour some coarse salt onto a plate, flip the glass with the wet lime juice rim upside down, and swirl it in the salt on the plate. Fill the glasses with some ice and strain the drink from the shaker and into the glass.
  8. Garnish with a lime and splash of Tabasco on top
  9. Drink
  10. Repeat

While today may be the Official National Margarita Day, travel to Mexico where every day is the Unofficial Margarita Day.  Please be advised that too many Margaritas will make you an awesome dancer.
