When to Book Flights for Spring Break 2027 (and How to Pay Less)

Why flights are separate
Our packages cover the resort, meals and drinks at the all-inclusive properties, round-trip airport transfers, taxes, and your on-site host. Airfare is not in the from-price because our groups fly from 40-plus airports and a package price that included a flight from Boston would be wrong for a group from Phoenix. You can book air yourself, or ask your Go Blue agent to quote flights alongside the package — for larger groups that is usually the easier route, because everyone lands on the same schedule and the transfer is timed to it.
The booking timeline
| When | What happens to fares | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| September–October | Airlines have loaded March schedules; fares are at or near the floor for peak weeks | Lock your resort dates. Watch fares. Book if you see a nonstop under your target. |
| November | Still low; first tier of seats on popular nonstops starts to sell | Book by mid-November. This is the sweet spot for most routes. |
| December | Fares begin rising as holiday travel clears and spring break demand shows in the data | Book now if you have not. |
| January | Noticeable increases; nonstops on the busiest Saturday departures start to sell out | Expect to pay $100–$200 more per person than November. |
| February | Sharpest climb; connections replace sold-out nonstops | Last call. Flexibility on airports and days is the only lever left. |
| March (week of) | Highest fares of the season | Do not be here. |
Which airport to fly into
| Destination | Airport | Nonstop cities (examples) | Flight time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cancún | CUN | New York, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, and most large hubs | 2–4.5 hrs |
| Punta Cana | PUJ | New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Atlanta, Miami, Fort Lauderdale | 2–4.5 hrs |
| Cabo San Lucas | SJD | Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas, Houston, San Francisco | 2.5–3 hrs from the West |
| Nassau | NAS | Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Atlanta, Charlotte, Washington, Philadelphia, New York, Boston | 1–3 hrs |
| Freeport | FPO | Fort Lauderdale, Miami (limited); most others connect through South Florida | Under 1 hr from South Florida |
| Fort Lauderdale / Panama City Beach / South Padre | FLL / ECP / BRO or HRL | Domestic; no passport | Varies |
Cancún has the most nonstop capacity of anything we sell, which is a big part of why it is the cheapest to reach from the Midwest and Northeast. Cabo is the reverse: cheap from the West, a connection from the East. Nassau is the shortest international flight on the list and often the cheapest from Florida and the Southeast.
Five things that cost groups money
- Booking flights before the resort. Dates shift when a group settles on a hotel. Lock the package first; the $100 deposit holds it.
- Splitting the group across airlines. Different arrival times mean waiting at the airport or missing the included transfer. Fly together.
- Saturday-to-Saturday. Peak-week Saturday departures are the most expensive seats in March. Sunday-to-Friday or Friday-to-Wednesday can be $50–$150 cheaper per person on the same route.
- Ignoring the second airport. Groups near Providence, Baltimore, Oakland, or Burbank often find lower fares than at the big hub 40 minutes away.
- Basic economy for a group with luggage. The fare looks lower until each person pays for a checked bag. Price it all-in.
What a March fare typically looks like
Fares change daily, so we will not print a number that will be wrong by the time you read it. As a planning range, our groups in recent years have seen round-trip economy fares to Cancún and Punta Cana land in the low-to-mid hundreds from the East Coast and Southeast when booked in the fall, and $100–$300 more from the Midwest and West. Cabo runs the opposite direction. Use the package price plus a fare quote from your own airport to build the budget — our cost guide walks through the full breakdown.
Passport check before you book
If anyone in your group does not have a passport book yet, start it before you buy flights. Routine processing takes several weeks; expedited is faster and costs more. Names on tickets must match the passport exactly. See our passport requirements guide for current processing times.

Flight FAQs
Are flights included in Go Blue spring break packages?
No. Packages include the resort, transfers, taxes, and host. Your agent can quote flights with the package on request.
When is the cheapest time to book flights for spring break?
Roughly 3 to 4 months out — by mid-November for a March trip.
Should I book flights before or after the resort?
After. Confirm the resort and dates first, then buy air.
Does the airport transfer wait for late flights?
Transfers are scheduled to your group's arrival time, which is why flying together matters. Tell your agent if anyone is on a different flight.
Do I need a passport to fly to Cancún, Punta Cana, Cabo, or the Bahamas?
Yes — a passport book, valid at least six months past your travel dates. Passport cards do not work for air travel.
